Our First Trip to Disneyland!

We did a little Disneyland 'test drive' while we were on vacation in Southern California. Our test drive included very low expectations for our day not knowing how long our kids would last at their young ages. A normal day out at home requires that we be home around 12:30pm for Eva's nap time. Well, I'm happy to say that our little princesses maximized the day and we had a more than fabulous day. Eva did take a little snooze late in the afternoon around 4:30pm while snuggled in the Ergo backpack.

Lila and Eva excited to leave our condo in Palm Springs for a big day at Disneyland.

We started the day at 9:00am with a character breakfast at the Plaza Inn. The girls met so many characters; Minnie Mouse and Winnie the Pooh were their favorites. Note; neither of them wanted to visit with Captain Hook.

The whole crew...Eva was a little overwhelmed with all of the characters.

Winnie the Pooh!

It's a Small World was our first stop in the park. I remember this ride when I was a kid and I wanted it to be our kids first introduction to Disneyland. Eva, Lila and I loved it! Eva was waving and both girls were singing as we ventured on the boat through the different cultures. Scott was in 'Small World' hell. He couldn't wait to get off the ride and go on a real ride.

The Dumbo Ride!

In truth Scott and Lila went on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad after It's a Small World. Then, Lila and I went on that ride and later in the day Scott and Lila went to Splash Mountain. Lila naively choose the front seat after feeling confident after her two very successful BTM rides. They both got very wet and Lila was a little apprehensive at some point on the ride (before the big splash). Nonetheless they had a great time and decided they would head back to BTM for another roller coaster ride. Splash Mountain can wait until she's a little older. Eva was not tall enough to do any of the big rides and she was more than fine with all of the other entertainment thus didn't care. Thank heavens!

WET!

Eva was much more interested in going to see Cinderella's Castle than anything else at the park all day. Here we are in front of the famed home of Cinderella.

Tea Cups!

The girls and I waited in a long line at the Princess Faire and it was totally worth it! We met Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty (Princess Aurora). We lucked out to meet all three prominent princesses and especially because our girls only really know these three (and Ariel).

What would it be like to meet the most famous person in your world? This is what it was like for Lila to meet Cinderella. She was excited and nervous and giddy too. Coincidentally Lila was wearing Cinderella socks (showing Cinderella below) and also Cinderella panties. I don't think Lila meant to show her panties and out of nervousness she kept pulling her dress up.

Eva caught the princess bug while we were in Disneyland. She warmed up to Cinderella and now can't stop talking about her (and her castle).

The girls with Snow White.

This sums up the late afternoon. Tired Eva was such a trooper. She was in a great mood the whole time and didn't want to stop or take a break. The yawn tells it all!

Leaving Disneyland after a very full and fabulous day with two tired and happy princesses.

Toy Story bus back to our car.

Palm Springs/Disneyland Vacation

We went on our first family vacation to Palm Springs and Disneyland last week. It was so much fun to get away together as a family and have some fun in the sunshine. When I got home there were 344 photos on my camera, multiple videos and a lot of fun memories. I will try to 'summarize' our trip here.

Waiting for our airplane with excitement!

Perhaps this is a little transparent to share and I think it's kind of funny. On the plane I was reading some Love and Logic notes in preparation for our week long vacation and at the same time as I was enjoying some complimentary red wine on the flight. I spilled red wine on my Love and Logic notes. Ironic? I say yes!

Good Dad = keeping both kids entertained on our plane ride (while I drink red wine and study up on my parenting strategies).

Someone is ready for the pool. She's such a goof ball!

Our little bathing beauties getting ready for their first of MANY visits to the pool just out the back door of our condo. The complex that we stayed at had so many wonderful and friendly people. We visited with the same people daily...mostly retired and super friendly with our kids. By the end of the week the kids were surprisingly comfortable visiting with Beth, Lee and Brian. The Mesquite Country Club is such a nice low-key complex. Love it!

Palm Springs has two parks that are unbelievable. They had so many slides, rock climbing walls, etc. So much fun!

My Mom's Portland Marathon

My mom ran the Portland Marathon on Sunday and she was amazing. We were able to send her off at the start and meet up with her several times throughout the race. It was fun to see the different phases of the run and track her running all over the city. At mile 11 I ran with my mom for a while and she was running fast, an 8:30 pace. She ran into some cramps around mile 18 and a little bit of rain. By the finish line she was looking great (see photo below).

At mile 24, me, mom and Katie

Doesn't she look great?

I just love this photo

Great Grandma Henri's Birthday/Weekend in Tacoma

We spent the weekend in Tacoma with Scott's family where we celebrated Great Grandma Henri's 87th birthday. Aunt Cathy and Uncle Don hosted us at their house which included an enormous amount of food, lots of arts and crafts for the kids and endless bottles of wine. It was so much fun!

Grandma Henri - Happy 87th Birthday!

On Saturday morning Scott, the kids and I ventured out to Point Defiance. On a whim we decided to take the ferry to Vashion Island (and back). It was the first ferry ride for both of the girls and as you can see from the photos it was a lot of fun.
